If you want to give birth to a genius, the baby name you choose may be important, since there are some common first names among those who are legally defined as a genius.

And there's research to back it up. A new study from Moose Roots, a scientific genetic history research company, found 26 names that have been tied to those who have been called geniuses.

The survey looked at 14,750 names from "notable philosophers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, inventors, artists, composers, Nobel laureates and MacArthur fellows" and identified what names are shared between them.

These names can be especially helpful when parents want to link their baby to a famous brilliant mind, possibly giving them a leg up in their own lives, the survey said.

"It's much easier to climb the ranks of the elite when you have a bit of a head start," Moose Roots explained. "Prepare your child for greatness by giving him a name that has been borne by many accomplished people."

It's unsurprising that a lot of these names have also been popular in general among Americans and across the world.

Take a look through the slideshows below to see which names have commonly been used by geniuses. The list is broken down into girls and boys names.
