Too often in life we put off what we want until tomorrow.

When you see the cookies sitting on the table, just waiting to be eaten, you take two (or ten) and tell yourself you'll start dieting tomorrow.

When you stare at that blank page of your unwritten book, you pull up Pinterest and tell yourself, "Another day."

When you see new parents with their little children, you think to yourself, "Maybe one day."

When you stare in the face of your dreams, you turn away and say, "Someday."

What about today? Whatever happened to doing something now to actually reach your "someday?" Because if you don't start now, your idea of "someday" will never happen. If you're focused on "someday" you're only holding yourself back from appreciating the here and now. Here is why that habit needs to stop:

1. If you put it off until tomorrow, it'll never happen

Procrastination is the absolute worst, but the easiest to do. Constantly putting off important things or the things you want to do until later is easy because we'd much rather binge shows on Netflix or waste time on social media. Just talking about "someday" is the exact same thing. You're never going to accomplish what you want if you spend your time just pushing it off until later. Don't push it off. Just start. Right now.

2. You're always looking to tomorrow when you could be focused on today

In the inspiring words of Shia Labeouf, "Yesterday you said tomorrow, so just do it!" If you've got your head looking towards tomorrow, but not doing anything about it, you're never going to get there.Take things one step, one day, one week at a time. When is someday, if not today?

3. You'll fantasize about "what could have been" when you finally reach your ideal "someday"

Sometimes the things we want have a habit of disappointing us in the end. You'll think of all the things you could have done differently to reach a more ideal "someday," and forget the incredible journey you had along the way. Don't be discouraged by the outcome. Be encouraged by the possibility of doing something better. Don't let the idea of not getting exactly what you want hold you back from actually doing what you love.

4. You will never be who you want to be if you're focused on "someday"

We all have an image in mind of the person we want to become but if you're focused on the ideal, you will never appreciate the person you are now. Sometimes it's hard to be happy with ourselves or the circumstances we're in. To overcome them, first you need to love yourself for they way you are now. Then start doing all you can to become the better version of yourself. It takes a lot of time and practice, but by continually striving to be better, you'll become the person you want to be.

5. Your idea of "someday" might never happen

We may never reach our goals or accomplish our ultimate dream. In Disney's Up, Carl and Ellie never made it to Paradise Falls together, and their Adventure Book was empty. When Carl finally landed his house on the top of Paradise Falls, it wasn't all that he had imagined it to be. He realized that his "someday" had changed, and his Adventure Book contained a life full of incredible adventures...ones he didn't realize he had. Dreams and goals change. Your "someday" might be full of adventures you didn't realize you had.

6. Turn your "someday" into today

Your "someday" can be today if you start right now. Do something a little bit every day to work toward your goals and you dreams. Before you know it, you'll have finally reached your "someday." Then you can start working toward your next big dream.
