Facebook allows us to stay in touch with friends and family all over the world. It's also used as a way to pass time and can be a convienient education and office tool.
However, posting garbage can damage your reputation and you could end up getting blocked by friends. What you post has a huge impact on yourself and those you associate with. Think before you post, because you're sharing personal information with millions of users, and it could come back to haunt you.
You should never post these nine things:
1. Obsessing over love
Posting pictures of you and your sweetheart is cute, but if you post too much or too often, it implies to others that you're insecure. Limit your obsessive posts about love and focus on appreciating your partner in real life instead.
2. Pictures of your children
This information can be incredibly dangerous if it gets in the wrong hands. Your family is the most important thing in your life, and posting personal information about your children (where they live or go to school) could be released to the whole world.
Protect your kids! This doesn't mean you should never post a picture of them, but limit the amount of photos you post and check their surroundings to make sure no personal information can be taken from them.
3. Passwords or account numbers
This is personal information that you should never share on the internet for your own safety. If you need to provide sensitive information like this, try to share it in person or through your phonel.
4. Sharing your routine
For your own safety, avoid posting the time you get up, eat, go to the gym, go to work or any other daily routines. While your friends and family might enjoy knowing about your day, a stalker or someone you're trying to avoid could use that information against you.
5. Talking about your job
Some employees have been fired for misusing social media and talking negatively about thier jobs. Share your successes or concerns in person with family and close friends. If you want to promote your business on social media, create a Facebook page for your business so you can separate your personal and professional lives.
6. Your address or phone number
Your friends and family will know how to reach you. Sharing this information on the internet is dangerous. If you change your phone number, don't post it online for everyone to see.
Sharing your location is also dangerous, as it can open a way for people to break into your home when you're not there.
7. Expressing hatred
Sharing negative comments or inappropriate photos of someone else will only cause pain for you and your Facebook followers. It's best to only post positive, uplifting things.
8. Sharing your diet or exercise plans
If you want to diet, do it for yourself and not for the approval of others. It will be much more satisfying to upload a photo of yourself when you achieve your goals, rather than sharing your entire journey.
9. Photos of money
Don't show off how well you're doing financially. Posting photos of money makes you appear conceited and boastful. Be humble and keep these kinds of photos off of social media.
For your own safety, don't publish confidential things that expose you or your family. Know the dangers of the internet and think before you post.
