Connecticut couple Jessica Mahoney and her husband, Kevin, have been struggling with fertility issues since they had their first child. They have suffered six miscarriages throughout the last few years. After a long and painful road, Jessica is finally expecting a rainbow baby.

A "rainbow baby" is a baby who is born following a miscarriage or stillbirth. The nickname derives from the symbolism of a rainbow: the beauty that follows the storm.

In August, Jessica and her husband asked photographer, JoAnn Marrero to take a photo representing a hopeful future for the couple after having to endure through the painful loss of six babies.

The photo is absolutely stunning.

Jessica and JoAnn both wanted to shed light for others on the difficult subject of infertility, and they did so in a remarkably beautiful way.

In an interview with Huffington Post, Jessica had this message to share with the world: "Six babies lost to have the honor to carry this rainbow baby. I hope my story helps someone else know they are not alone, as the journey of loss and infertility is dark and lonely."
