Sony Pictures and Mattel recently announced that funny-girl Amy Schumer will play Mattel's iconic Barbie in the first ever live-action remake. The movie will apparently follow Barbie, Schumer, as she is kicked out of Barbie-land for not being perfect and goes out to explore the real world. Schumer, who fluctuates between a size 6 and a size 8, was immediately ridiculed as the choice to play such a beloved character. Trolls immediately took to Twitter to body shame the actress.

However, the ever-confident Schumer struck back on her Instagram account saying, "Very, very honored to be nominated for 2 Grammys and to be considered to play an important and evolving icon. Is it fat shaming if you know you're not fat and have zero shame in your game? I don't think so."

I want to thank them for making it so evident that I am a great choice. It's that kind of response that let's you know something's wrong with our culture and we all need to work together to change it. Anyone who has ever been bullied or felt bad about yourself I am out there fighting for you, for us. And I want you to fight for yourself too! We need to laugh at the haters and sympathize with them. She also gave fans a glimpse of where her confidence comes from, and it is not from the people who insist on judging her. She said, "I am strong and proud of how I live my life and say what I mean and fight for what I believe in and I have a blast doing it with the people I love. Where's the shame? It's not there. In the past year, the Mattel Barbie doll has undergone some drastic changes and the casting of Schumer is just one more step on the way to re-shaping the image of the too-perfect Barbie doll. In January the company released their new versions of Barbie, adding in a tall, petite and curvy version of the doll.

So to you and all women

"It's that kind of response that let's you know something's wrong with our culture and we all need to work together to change it," Schumer said. "Anyone who has ever been bullied or felt bad about yourself I am out there fighting for you, for us. And I want you to fight for yourself too!"

The body-shaming culture that surrounds us is brutal, which is why, now more than ever, it is so important to make sure our daughters, sisters, and friends know that they are beautiful no matter what. Yes, Amy Schumer will play Barbie, but no matter how you personally feel about that, take this opportunity to fight for yourself and those you love; and to be confident in who you are.
