A mother is seeking justice after a daycare worker nursed her child without her permission. The caregiver was caught on security camera footage nursing the child, according to ABC 11.
The daycare center is located in Carrboro, North Carolina. The recorded video shows the caregiver adjusting her blouse and approaching the three-month-old baby to breastfeed him.
The baby's mother, Kaycee Oxendine, said the caregiver asked for permission multiple times to breastfeed him to relieve the baby's constipation. But Oxendine said no each time.
"She said that she had a son and did I want her to put my child to her breast and breastfeed?" Oxendine said. "And I said no, that's nasty. We don't do things like that."
The woman nursed him anyway
Even after being denied permission, the caretaker took the baby and nursed him for several seconds after his mother left the room.
"As a mom, you've taken something from me ... I wasn't able to defend my child," Oxendine said. "I wasn't there."
Daron Council, the daycare director, said the employee was dismissed the same day. Oxendine wants to press criminal charges, according to a Fox News report.
Her son is lactose intolerant
The mother became even angrier because her son, who was born premature, is lactose intolerant. "Not only did you put your breast to my son, you also made my son sick because he's lactose intolerant. So you've put something in his body that his body can't digest," she told ABC 11.
"I'm not angry at the childcare center. I'm very angry at the employee. I do hope that there's justice for my son," Oxendine said.
The mother is not satisfied with just dismissing the employee - she wants the police to take action. Oxendine goes on to explain: "I would hate for any parent, any family to have to go through what me and my family have had to go through."
Common symptoms
Symptoms of lactose intolerant babies include:
-
Diarrhea
-
Cramps
-
Swelling
-
Gas
Oxendine already knew that her baby was lactose intolerant, but many mothers should keep an eye on these symptoms to identify this condition in their babies. If your doctor confirms that your baby is lactose intolerant, your doctor may suggest removing all lactose from your baby's diet. This includes breast milk.
Following the daycare incident, the mother said her lactose intolerant son became sick and she took him to a hospital emergency room to be checked.
The police's decision
Though the mother wanted the daycare worker to be brought to justice, police investigated the circumstances of the incident, consulted lawyers at the police department and ruled that no criminal charges would be filed.
