In 2009, Travolta and Preston's 16-year-old son tragically passed away while on vacation in the Bahamas. Jett, who was autistic and prone to seizures, passed away after experiencing a seizure in the bathtub which resulted in a head injury.
In 2014, Travolta opened up about the heartache he experienced after losing Jett, saying it was "the worst thing that's ever happened in my life." In an interview at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, the actor said he didn't know if he was "going to make it," crediting the Church of Scientology for helped him through the tough time. "I will forever be grateful to Scientology for supporting me for two years solid, I mean Monday through Sunday," he said at the time. "They didn't take a day off, working through different angles of the techniques to get through grief and loss, and to make me feel that finally I could get through a day."
In addition with Jett, Travolta and Preston also share daughter Ella, 24, and son Ben, 13. "Happy Birthday Jetty," Ella commented on her dad's post. Other celebrity friends of Travolta commented their well wishes to Jett. Rita Wilson commented saying, "Will never forget him. Or Kelly." Travolta suffered another great loss in July 2020 when his wife of 28 years passed away after a two year battle with breast cancer. He announced Preston's passing via Instagram saying, "Kelly's love and life will always be remembered."
