In a viral TikTok, a mom has sparked a heated discussion after she shared her Mother's Day rules. Emily Wehner, shared a TikTok last month about how she chooses to celebrate Mother's Day. Her first rule? “It is Mother’s Day, not Grandmother’s Day,” she said in the video. “Don’t worry, I’ve talked to my mom about this. She’s fine with it," she added. Wehner shared her experience from her first Mother's Day where she ended the day "pretty sad" after spending the whole day coordinating grandparent visits. “I didn’t get to do anything for myself,” she said.

In the video, she explained that on Mother's Day, she usually plans ahead with her husband. The day includes family brunch, and then a series of relaxing activities such as solo gardening, reading, or getting a pedicure. Later in the evening, they will have family dinner. “It’s usually very chill at home,” she said. Wehner noted that they also celebrate Father's Day the same way. “This may ruffle feathers for some people, but it’s what I wanna do,” she said. "I made the boundary, and I’m the one deep into the mothering right now, so I’m gonna take the day how I wanna take the day.”
The video sparked controversy, with many TikTok users sharing their opinions in the comment section. One user commented, “Ya selfish women want your husbands to forget about their moms for you, can’t wait until your kids grow up and do the same to you.” While other TikTok users expressed their desire to set the same boundary in their family. “This is my third mother's day as a mom and it's 100% about my mom and his mom. I haven't been celebrated yet,” one mom wrote.
