1. The deadly war in America

Conversations around the opioid epidemic are more mainstream now than ever, but on Thursday, March 29, the Centers for Disease Control Prevention reported alarming news: opioid overdose deaths continue to rise.

Currently, opioid overdose kills 115 Americans each day. That's over 41,000 a year. To put this in perspective, in one year more Americans die from opioids than the entire Iraq, Afghanistan and Gulf War combined.

Something to chew on when your parent spidey senses start triggering...

Talk about it. Tekulve Jackson, a clinical director for Alpine Recovery Lodge, said parents do a disservice to their children when they don't start the conversations about drugs at a young age. And, he warns, "being vague is not effective."
