A tragic incident has left a Maryland family grieving after the mother of a newborn baby girl passed away following a 'horrific' golf cart accident.
Mary Beth Blasetti, 32, was enjoying a ride in an E-Z-GO golf cart in Annapolis when the accident occurred. She was thrown from the cart and suffered severe injuries, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
After the accident, Blasetti was airlifted to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries two days later.
"It appears at a certain point they hit some sort of a dip, and at that point, that passenger was ejected from that golf cart or thrown from the golf cart," the Anne Arundel County Police Department's Justin Mulcahy said of the incident, according to CBS station WJZ.
"This is an extremely tragic, unfortunate situation," Mulcahy continued. "Our hearts go out to everyone impacted and we're going to continue investigating it with the State's Attorney's Office just to determine what exactly happened here."
Police identified Blasetti as the passenger in the cart but didn't name the driver of the vehicle, who was listed as a 32-year-old female from Crownsville, Maryland.
Loved ones started a GoFundMe confirming Blasetti had been involved in "a tragic accident," adding that she "leaves behind her husband, Nick Blasetti, and their 2-month-old daughter, Mary Katharine Blasetti."
"Mary Beth brought joy to so many and had a wide community of friends and family who are devastated by her sudden passing. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her," organizers wrote in the GoFundMe.
According to the fundraiser, Mary Beth and her husband had recently purchased their first home together in Annapolis. "Nick and Mary Katharine will have plenty to navigate over the course of the next few months, so we’d like to soften that burden by helping them financially," organizers wrote, thanking people for their "love and support during this difficult time."
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
