Singer Paloma Faith recently took to her Instagram stories to express her distaste for the new "Little Mermaid" film, saying she did not like the messaging the movie portrayed to young girls. The live-action remake brought in $118 million at the box office just during the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

The 41-year-old started out her Instagram story congratulating Halle Bailey on her performance as Ariel in the new Disney movie before sharing why she did not like the movie's storyline. "Just seen the new Little Mermaid with my kids, and while I think Halle gives an amazing performance and it's great casting, as a mother of girls, I don’t want my kids to think it’s ok to give up your entire voice and your powers to love a man," Faith said. "Wtf is this s***?! Not what I want to be teaching next gen women at all," she added.

The storyline that Faith is referring to is Ariel giving up her voice to become a human so she can be with Prince Eric, which is the same storyline in the original 1989 film. Halle Bailey appeared in an interview with Edition a few months prior to the movie's release, where she spoke about her new version of the movie and how it "definitely changed that perspective of just her wanting to leave the ocean for a boy ... It’s way bigger than that. It’s about herself, her purpose, her freedom, her life and what she wants.”
