Tom and Courtney Gilmour were planning a magical trip to Disney World when they got some life-changing news about their foster children, Janielle and Elijah. A few days before embarking on their Disney adventure, the foster parents got the news that they had an adoption date.

Janielle and Elijah (ages 12 and 10) spent their lives in the foster care system, living with many different families for short periods of time. But when they were placed with the Gilmours, everything changed.

It was an instant connection

According to Today, Courtney immediately knew she wanted to adopt the children when she met them three years ago. She said, "We instantly connected ... We blended as a family. It didn't feel weird for a second. It felt natural."

When the couple got the news that they could adopt the children, they were absolutely thrilled and decided to tell the kids the good news in Disney World.

"I'm celebrating adopting our kids"

According to People, when the family walked into the park for the first time, the couple wrote on the "I'm Celebrating" buttons, "I'm celebrating adopting our kids," then Courtney tweeted with a Walt Disney World hashtag. Shortly after, a Disney representative saw the tweet and asked how they could help make their stay even more magical. Courtney told People, "I thought that they were going to give us free dessert!"

In true Disney fashion, the cast members delivered on their promise. They really made this moment as magical and memorable as they possibly could.

The surprise of a lifetime

Unaware of what was going on, the two kids were given the opportunity to have a private meet and greet with the one and only Mickey Mouse. The emotional video of the encounter shows the kids walking through a hallway to meet Mickey, and when they get there, he talks to them, does a magic trick and asks for a picture.

This experience would have been memorable by itself, but what happened next changed the kids' lives forever.

The cast member showed the kids a sign that said "Adoption Day" and the date set for the adoption. It was a heart-warming, emotional moment for everyone there, and the two kids burst into tears they were so excited.

Be aware of adoption

When the sweet video reached a million views, Courtney posted on her Facebook, "That's a million more people who know about adoption and see what love and nurturing can do for children! [One] million reasons to love. But if we only got [one] more person willing to step up, we served our purpose!!!" Now, their video has well over two million views.
