Rebecca Jensvold Hayes and David Ward were high school sweethearts. Their relationship resulted in a baby boy when Rebecca was in her sophomore year. She and David broke up before the baby was born, but have remained friends throughout the years. They both moved on to marry other people.

Then, tragedy struck

Rebecca's husband, Paul, passed away in 2013. David and his wife were there for her and their now-grown son, Clayton, through the ordeal.

Then, tragedy struck again in 2015. David's wife was diagnosed with cancer and passed away last year. It was Rebecca's turn to be there for her friend and father to her child.

"We had texts and phone calls and long talks over coffee about the crazy thoughts you have and the ridiculous things people say to you and what it feels like to be in this horrible club of the widowed," Rebecca said in a recent Facebook post.

Something wonderful happened

"One day we just got punched in the stomach with it ... That love had changed once again and it was the real deal. We miss and love our spouses still and will always love them. So this ... this is scary and wonderful and crazy ... but real," she said.

The high school sweethearts came full-circle. They rekindled that love that brought them together so many years ago and let it grow into a beautiful flame.

To celebrate their new-found love, they decided to organize the "newborn" photo shoot they missed out on decades ago. The pictures are hilarious, but the story behind them is even better.

Rebecca and David have been dating for a few months now. Congratulations to the happy couple!
