There are very few jobs as difficult as motherhood, and if I dare say so myself, none that are half as rewarding. There are days where you feel like you just might break. At the end of the day, as you rock your little angel to sleep, you realize you wouldn't change a thing.

How does she do it? You think to yourself as you see that woman with her five children, seeming to have it all figure out. Well, I am by no means that woman, but I have a few ideas of how to be a mom when it's your first time.

Forgive

First and foremost, you need to be forgiving. You need to forgive yourself quickly for not being perfect. Despite what people want you to believe, no one is the perfect mother. Be understanding with yourself, everyone makes mistakes, and vow to be better each day. Forgive your child quickly. Children are not designed to be bad, they are just curious. They are growing and learning, and it is our job to teach them, to comfort them, and to love them. Forgive them quickly, teach them better, and realize that your child is just learning about the world around them, not being malicious.

Routine

Structure and schedule will be your best friend. It is common for new moms to feel as though they are living a little out of control. The sooner you get a schedule set for you and the baby, the sooner you will get your life back under control. Baby should have an eating schedule, and a sleeping schedule. Newborns eat every 2-4 hours, and you should be able to create a schedule pretty easily based on how often your baby eats.

Take care of yourself

When baby is napping, I'm sure there is plenty to do, but occasionally it is important that you just nap too. You need the rest to be the best mommy, and person, you can be. When you are overly tired, you aren't going to get much done, and certainly not with a smile on your face. So nap, and don't feel guilty about it.

Recruit

Ask for help if you need it. Don't be ashamed, afraid or feel guilty for asking for help! If you just can't take getting up in the middle of the night again, ask your husband to get up for you once in a while. Call your mom to come watch the baby while you nap, or get some chores done, she will love to help you and love the time with her little grandbaby. It's OK to need help now and then. As much as we all want to be supermoms, sometimes we just need a little extra help.

Love your baby, and be patient. One day you will look at how big they have gotten and wish you had your little nugget back. Each stage is fun and exciting in its own way; document things, take pictures of everything, and enjoy every moment you can with your little one.
