In a new survey from the Thriving Center of Psychology, it found that 56 percent of Americans say that dating is harder than it has been in previous years. The new poll surveyed more than 1,000 singles, finding shocking results of what dating is looking like in 2023. The study also found that many Americans find dating harder due to inflation. Twenty-six percent say that inflation is driving them to offer to split the bill on dates, with one in three women offering to pay for the dinner date.

Many believe that the recent struggles of dating and finding love in the recent years is due to modern-day dating apps. The survey found that 67 percent of respondents have used dating apps, and out of those, 69 percent say they don't like them. Thirty-five percent of respondents say they do not feel safe using dating apps, half of them being women. Another issue many have found is matching with someone but not being on the same page with their dating viewpoints. Many people use dating apps for going on dates to find potential long-term partners, but 15 percent say they are only looking for hookups, while 16 percent say they are just looking to make friends.

On the topic of dating apps, many people question if it is alright to "stalk" your date online before meeting them in person. Shockingly, 49 percent of Americans say that, yes, it is alright to look up your date on things like social media before meeting them in person. Sixty-five percent of women even say that it is socially acceptable to "stalk" their online date.

With so many modern dating apps available, it leaves many Americans struggling to find real love. Along with so many dating apps becoming more accessible, other factors, such as inflation and safety, seem to be holding back young adults from pursuing online dating freely.
