It's easy to get caught up in the every day, mundane tasks of life when you've been together or married for a while. It can be easy to forget that your partner might need a little extra love and affection, so here are a few ways you can give him a little boost when he needs some love.

1. Do something he loves that you don't

My husband loves everything about the great outdoors. I'm more of an "indoorsy" person, so this gets difficult when we have different ideas of a fun night. Do something he loves, and he'll return the favor.

You could even compromise. Just the other day my husband and I set up hammocks in a nearby park and hung out together. I was happy because we didn't have to hike, and he was happy because we were outside. It was awesome.

2. Write him a note

I'm not talking about a text or a message in his notes app on his phone, I'm talking about a real note on a piece of paper. There's just something about handwritten notes that make the heart swoon.

3. Plan a surprise date

If there's somewhere he's been dying to go, surprise him by taking him there. He'll appreciate that you remembered what he wanted to do, and you'll get to spend quality time with him.

4. Tell him your love story

I absolutely love it when my husband tells me the story of how we met, our first kiss, how we got engaged and every other significant part of our lives. Tell him your stories. He knows his side, but it's so fun to hear it from a different perspective and it brings back fun memories.

5. Send him a song that reminds you of him

If you hear a song that makes you think of him, send it to him so he can listen. He'll appreciate that you're thinking of him, and it will give him something to smile about during his work day.

6. Surprise him with his favorite treat

You can drop it off to him at work or have it at home, but surprise him with his favorite treat. He'll be so excited and it'll let him know you're thinking of him.

7. Plan a fun activity with his family

Life can get busy and it can be hard to find time to spend with your families. He (and your mother-in-law) will appreciate the effort you put in to keep his family a part of your life. Having a good relationship with both of your families is so important.

8. Listen to him

Let him tell you about his day without any distractions or interruptions. Show genuine interest in what he has to say. This is a great time for you to spend time together without phones or kids. 15 minutes with just the two of you can go a long way.

9. Compliment him

Give him specific compliments about his character and his personality traits you notice. It will brighten his day and give him an extra boost of confidence.

10. Be there for him

Being there for your significant other is the best thing you can do for them. Give them someone they can rely on, have fun with and be happy with.

Although these are specific ways to brighten his day, all of these ideas go both ways. If you're a husband reading this, do these for your wife. Strong marriages go both ways, and doing little things to brighten each other's days can build healthy relationships and lasting marriages.
