Disclaimer: All women everywhere are beautiful and no one is perfect. This article is not intended to body shame or degrade a female's physical appearance. Society already does enough of that, and it's grotesquely wrong in every way.
The purpose of this article is to honestly talk about some of the things men find unattractive in women and give some helpful tips.
What you won't find discussed in this article are things like height that a woman can't control. While some things listed below relate to genetics, this article focuses on aspects of appearance that are within a person's control.
1. Yellow teeth and bad breath
Teeth are one of the first things men notice. The way they look often tells how much a woman cares about other aspects of her appearance. Yellow or grimy teeth create an instant barrier, while clean teeth send a positive message (naturally inviting men to get closer).
Combat bad breath by brushing your tongue as part of your normal brushing routine. Tongue scrapers are another effective way of removing tongue bacteria, which is the primary source of bad breath.
Apart from brushing twice a day, you might be wondering what else you can do to improve your smile without breaking the bank.
Try rubbing the inside of a banana peel (the fresher the better) directly on your teeth. Let the banana residue stay on your teeth for about 10 minutes and avoid touching it with your lips. Your teeth will become brighter by absorbing the magnesium, manganese and potassium from the peel. While one application won't give you instant results, you should see a significant change in a week or so.
Cutting out coffee, black tea and cigarettes will also make a major difference to the whiteness and overall health of your teeth.
2. Facial hair
Facial hair is a major turn-off for men. It weakens a women's feminine appeal and is downright embarrassing. Inversely, a clean and smooth face is attractive and much more appealing.
Removing facial hair is especially important for women as they get older and their bodies begin to change. While some areas of the face are obvious areas to pay attention to, the nose and ears should also be checked often.
3. Hairy, unshaven legs
Speaking of hair, unshaven legs is another unappealing way guys are easily turned off. Taking the time to shave on a consistent basis shows you care about your body and personal hygiene.
Dermatologists recommend shaving after you've been in the shower for about 10-15 minutes. This will allow the skin and hair follicles to soften for a smoother shave. It is also important to use a moisturizing shaving cream. Avoid dry-shaving or only using a bar of soap to lather your legs.
4. Too much makeup
Most men would rather see a woman with too little makeup than too much. Overly-masked faces show insecurity and a lack of confidence. If your man can't handle seeing you without 6 layers of Maybelline, then maybe he isn't the right guy for you.
Avoid using too much foundation, blush, eyeliner, cover up and other beauty products. Use makeup to enhance your natural features, not to create what isn't there. Remember, less is always more when it comes to covering imperfections.
5. Cracked lips
Chapped and dry lips will make your man want to avoid kissing and being intimate with you. This is a common issue that is fairly easy to keep at bay. Use Chap Stick or lip balm and avoid licking your lips when they are dry. Try finding lip glosses and lipsticks that have moisturizer in them.
Don't forget to protect your lips from the sun just as you would the rest of your skin.
6. Crazy eyebrows
Men definitely notice when a woman is trying too hard with her eyebrows. Keep them trim and clean but avoid over trimming.
Use your eyebrows to help shape your face. Eyebrows shouldn't draw a lot of attention but should naturally blend in with the rest of your features.
7. Sweaty armpit stains
Sweat stains under your armpits can quickly demolish your overall attractiveness. These eyesores are embarrassing and are very unappealing to men. Fortunately, some diligent effort reduces this problem. Here are some tips:
- Use an antiperspirant. Make sure your skin is dry before applying.
- Consider wearing underarm pads. These absorb and block the sweat from your clothing.
- Wear looser clothing made of microfiber or smart weave materials.
- Don't apply too much antiperspirant or deodorant as it can build up and block your pores, which causes you to sweat even more.
- Squeeze lemon juice directly on sweat stains before washing your shirts to remove the stains.
8. Fake tans
Spray-on tans can easily make a woman's skin look unnatural or blotchy. It's better to naturally tan your skin while applying a light sunscreen. Avoid excessive tanning as it can lead to skin cancer and other skin conditions.
9. Unkempt feet and toenails
Men like to see nice looking feet, but that doesn't mean you have to go out and get an expensive pedicure every week. Keep your feet and nails looking nice by regularly removing dead skin and moisturizing any dry spots.
10. A bad attitude
Though a woman may look absolutely gorgeous, a guy can still quickly lose interest if she has a negative outlook. A bad attitude will turn a guy off faster than any other physical fault a woman may have.
The opposite is also true. And a happy, fun attitude actually makes you appear much more physically attractive.
American actress Rosalind Russell said it best when she stated, "Taking joy in living is a woman's best cosmetic."
