This is going to be fun. I love, love, love letting people know about my amazing husband. Right up front I'll admit he's not perfect, but at the moment I can't think of why I'd even say that. To me, he's "perfectly" wonderful in so many ways that count, and that's good enough for me. Here are a few of the things he does that lets me know he loves me.
1. He finds discount ads on things he knows I like
For example, a few days ago he pulled an ad from the newspaper that showed a big discount on women's clothing at Macy's. He said, "Just thought you might want to take a look."
2. He responds to my unscheduled whims
While running a few have-to errands yesterday, I had a sudden desire to take a drive up the canyon to see the fall colors. As soon as I mentioned it he said, "Let's do it!" And off we went to see the sights.
3. He likes to make the bed
We often do it together, but he finds pleasure in beating me to it. It's always a nice surprise.
4. He's sympathetic to my illness
I have asthma-the kind that makes me cough uncontrollably sometimes. He feels bad for me and offers me drinks of water and loving hugs.
5. Speaking of hugs, he gives them generously
We both seem to need lots of them. Probably because they are so comforting.
6. He buys me treats when he grocery shops
He's one of those rare guys who enjoys a stroll through the grocery aisles. He often slips in a surprise for me, like a mango or a can of black olives. He knows what I like.
7. He encourages me to take a nap when I'm tired
He keeps the noise down so I can get some rest. He knows I'll be a new woman when I get up. This is one of those good deeds that has an immediate payoff.
8. He holds my hand when we are walking
When he reaches for my hand, it makes be feel happy. I love the feel of his big strong hand holding my smaller-by-comparison one. I feel safe with him by my side.
9. He prays for me
I love that he cares enough to ask God to bless me. Then he tops it off with, "Thank you for my dear wife. I'm so blessed to have her." These prayers touch my heart.
10. He has worked hard for many years to provide for our family
There is definitely proof in this pudding that his heart is with me.
11. He eats dinners I cook that don't turn out the way I hoped
Yes, he's downed some pretty pathetic meals. When I asked how he liked it, knowing full well the weirdness of the question, he says, "It was OK, but I won't mind if you don't fix it, again." I agree.
12. He says I look pretty when I absolutely know I don't
He's kind of blind like that. I've learned to not try to talk him out of that opinion and just thank him. Then I run to the mirror/comb/makeup and do my best to make an honest man out of him.
13. He appreciates me
I know this because he thanks me for little things I do. It makes me want to do more.
14. He's good to our kids
I am touched deeply when I see him do kind things for our children. The way to a man's heart may be through his stomach, but the way to a woman's heart is through her children.
15. He's good to my mother
Actually I need to say that in the past tense because she passed a few years ago. While she was alive he always showed her love and respect. That meant the world to me.
16. He takes good care of himself
He looks good and smells clean. That not only shows respect for himself but for me. It's fun to be hugged by that kind of guy.
17. He wants me to be with him
Even when he makes a run to the hardware store, he will usually say, "Want to come with me?" Often I do, just because I like to be with him, too.
18. He praises me to his friends
Sometimes when I'm right there and can hear him. At times, it makes me blush, but inside it makes me feel loved.
19. He says the words "I love you."
He says them often and I never tire of hearing them. Maybe it's because he says them in a way that I know he means it. Tenderly, and many times with a kiss.
20. He takes me on a weekly date
Friday night is usually the night he takes me out to dinner. Sometimes we go alone and sometimes we invite good friends to go along. At times we'll see a movie, a play, or something else to lengthen out the fun after dinner. We both enjoy planning these nights out.
21. He's faithful to me
I know beyond any doubt that he would never cheat on me. I know that he holds our wedding vows as sacred as I do. I can trust him, no matter where he may be.
These are just a few of the reasons why I know my sweetheart loves me. I hope to live in a way to show him this same kind of evidence of my love for him. This is the true way to happiness in marriage. And it takes a constant awareness and vigilance, but oh, is it ever worth it!
