Most couples experience an intense passion during the early years of their marriage, but slowly begin to lose it as the years pass. There are many factors that contribute to a couple lacking the passion they once felt. There are small children to attend to, late hours at work or traveling on business. Even though these reasons are understandable, they shouldn't be excuses. There is always time for affection.
As hectic as my spouse's and my schedule is, our marriage is priority. We make time for dinner and a movie or a walk in the park with our dog. It's been nine years together, and we still hold hands and giggle in public as if we were teenagers. If he sees me occupied with my work, he plants a gentle kiss on my cheek and whispers how much he loves me. For example, if he is working on his cars, I try to help out or keep him company. Being attentive shows how much we love each other.
There is no better feeling than falling in love with your spouse over and over through the simplest forms. Love isn't always material. Love is emotions.
Keep the magic alive
I love when my husband calls me at work just to say "hi" and "I love you." He does it at random, which shows me he is thinking about me all the time. Make unexpected phone calls or send sweet texts throughout the day. Why not buy a Hallmark card, personalize it with a special message from the heart and mail it to your spouse's workplace or send flowers? Never stop flirting with each other. Reenact how you both met. Hug every chance you get and hold hands in public. Enjoy being in the company of one another even if it means cuddling on the couch without saying a word just watching television. Here are some more tips for keeping a marriage strong and happy.
Engage in romantic activities
Head out to your favorite park and enjoy a romantic picnic. Go sightseeing or dancing. Visit the places where you frequented before getting married. Reminisce on the wonderful memories shared thus far. Leave the kids with a trusted babysitter or family member and run away for a few hours. Rent a room as if you were on a honeymoon all over again. Don't be afraid to act like lovebirds.
Communicate
Your spouse is your best friend. Entrust in him. Never keep secrets from each other. Secrets destroy relationships. Therefore, if something is bothering you, speak up. You and your spouse are a team; so, together, you will make things better. Discuss your day. If you are a stay-at-home mom, share the events that took place throughout the day. If you both work, discuss your day. Moreover, consider chatting about topics you normally would not. Make the conversations fun.
Keep in mind, as chaotic as your schedule is, never forget to approach your spouse with a surprising hug or gentle kiss. Don't wait for special occasions to tell your spouse how much you love and appreciate him. Tell him at any given time. Be spontaneous. Spontaneity helps keep a marriage alive.
