Social media is a great way to stay connected with loved ones. You get to see what your friends and family are doing, you get to see the cute pictures of family who are on the other side of the country, and you get to keep in touch with old friends who you might otherwise lose touch with. But when your husband is connecting with loved ones online, it can seem like he's disconnecting from you.

Social media doesn't have to interfere with marriage

In marriage, there's no intrinsic harm that comes from social media. But not all good things come without a vice. As a wife, you like to spend time with your husband. But sometimes it seems like your husband is too caught up looking up his fantasy sports scores, texting with friends, or looking up news trends on social channels.

When this happens, don't fret. There are usually a couple things you can do to help get his attention off the screen and back on to you.

Here are 3 suggestions:

1) Make activities more fun than social media

Social media can be distracting. But distractions aren't new. Before social media there were TV's, telephones, newspapers, books, and even fires that distracted people from their family. The truth is, nobody looks forward to browsing Facebook for hours. They usually do it in absence of anything better to do. So give your husband something better to do. Plan a date night, get out a card game, or even dress up in something sexy. You'll soon see that social media isn't' that important to him anymore.

2) Turn off your screen, too

The only reason that you get on your screen is because he's already on his. Or is it the other way around? The truth is, when you turn on your screen you're not giving your husband much reason to turn off his. And regardless of who started it, you can end it. Turn off your screen and ask him to do something fun with you.

3) Put all your screens in one place

If you're like most families, you probably have phones, tablets and laptops scattered throughout your house - in bedrooms, bathrooms, the living room and kitchen. This makes it easy to "hop on for a quick second to check something" but before you know it, that quick second has turned into a few minutes.

Instead of leaving screens around the house, enticing your husband (and you) to get on a for a few seconds put all the devices in one place out of the way. You'll soon find that he's not so interested in checking posts or updating nearly as often.

As said before, there's nothing inherently bad about social media or even screens for that matter. It's only bad when connecting with others around the world is keeping your loved ones from connecting with you. These tips are simple and practical to help your husband log-off of social media and tune-in to you.
