Society in general expects men to be strong, pushes them to be successful and encourages them to avoid showing emotion. Many men create an image of how they believe a perfect man ought to look, act and behave - but underneath this manly image are many insecurities. Here are five you probably don't realize your man has:

1. Financial insecurity

Almost every man has the innate need to provide for his family or for himself. Some men find steady jobs while others try to make it big through a hope and a dream. Without a doubt your man in concerned about his and your financial security.

For many men, financial security equals relationship security. So if your man overworks, realize he is doing it for you (even if you would rather him spend time at home). Recognize this insecurity and strive to not ask for everything that catches your fancy. Carefully budget and your man will feel more secure within your relationship.

2. Physical attributes

Yes, men do care how they look. Why would men spend so much time at the gym or playing sports if they didn't? Things like hair loss, height, weight and body structure are all things your mister worries about.

To boost his confidence, compliment your man. I know a wife who loves her husband's bald head and isn't afraid to show it. Showing that you like his body will tell him that you love him. You may feel like you are boosting his ego, but in reality you are helping him combat his insecurities.

3. Sexual abilities

Any romance book will tell you that men are supposed to be comfortable taking charge in the bedroom...and men feel that pressure. He is probably insecure about his bedroom performance, so don't give him reason to be more insecure. Be careful in your wording when saying no to sex, and participate fully when you do have sex. Don't make him feel that you are just doing this for him. He wants you to feel good too!

4. Emotional intimacy

Men see tears and want to run, but women expect their man to be emotionally intimate in their relationship...which can be difficult for your husband.

He's concerned about explaining his feelings and not living up to your expectation of him. Showing your man that you respect him and love him will help him feel more comfortable around you. He will not feel the need to be perfect and will be more willing to open up to you.

Be patient and understanding and know it's scary for him to be emotionally intimate; give him time.

5. You

He is insecure about where he stands with you. He might wonder about your past relationships or if you are just pretending to want to be with him. He wants to feel secure with you so be honest and loving. He wants to be vulnerable with you and trust you, but he is also scared that you might hurt him. When you gain his trust, do everything in your power not to lose it.

Your man wants to be strong for you but these five insecurities plague almost every man. Love him enough to not confront him about them, but choose to just support. Love and respect are your keys to helping your man.
