Your new suitor may be making all the right moves to get your attention. But what glitters isn't always gold. There are some surefire signs your potential beau isn't ready for the real thing. Here are 5 ways to tell:

1. He thinks gas is gross

Newsflash: women are human beings! And like all people, girls get gassy from time to time. Flatulence may or may not be nasty in general, but if it's fine for guys and gross for girls, you've got a problem. If your guy thinks it's gross, he wants to date a doll, not a real person. It's not pleasant to think about, but if you accept his bodily functions and don't give him grief about them, he should return the favor.

2. He thinks you're hot... and nothing else

Ask your suitor what he thinks about you. He'll likely tell you you're pretty, sexy, beautiful or gorgeous. But if he's not ready for a real romance, he will quickly run out of things to say. He hasn't gotten past the surface and doesn't really know who you are. He would want whoever fits your physique and isn't necessarily falling for the inner and unique you.

3. He doesn't want anyone else to have you

But he doesn't exactly want you either. Sometimes you'll come across a guy (or more commonly an ex) who seems to be chasing you. But unfortunately, he is really just chasing other potential suitors away. He isn't interested in committing, but he won't leave you alone either. Don't push for something serious with this fellow. Even if you get what you think you want, it won't last because having you was never his goal.

4. Getting you is his goal

Speaking of goals, someone who loves the chase is generally unsatisfied once they achieve the objective. But others find entering a relationship their main task and work hard to get there. Then once he has you, his work is done. No more dates. No more romance. No more affection. He's not ready for the real thing. He just likes the title.

5. He needs to show you off

Your guy doesn't know the first thing about real love if you get the feeling he's dating you just to parade you around and show you off. Unlike women who never get taken out, you go out with your guy all the time. He constantly makes you the center of attention and proudly wears you on his arm like an accessory. He's unconcerned with who you are as a person and sees you as a representation of his status.

Sometimes it can be hard to spot a romantic who really doesn't know what he's doing in the love department. If you're looking for something true and enduring, watch out for these red flags and run in the other direction.
