When he leans in slowly, looks straight at your lips, and your heart instantly races.... you know what's going to happen. The kiss is coming and you want it right now!

But why? What's with kissing?

Kissing burns calories, but that is not why we find ourselves wanting it. When a guy leans in to plant one on you, I doubt you are thinking, "I am going to burn 120 calories if we kiss for a whole hour!".

There are a lot of things you probably do not know about kissing...seven to be exact.

1. The body produces a substance 200 times more powerful than morphine

When kissing, you release endorphins which make you beyond happy. Happiness limits depression, stress, and in the end, can be a form of free therapy. Why spend hundreds of dollars trying to find happiness when a good long smooch can get you to the same place for free?

2. Kissing reduces stress

Do you know why your stress is reduced when you kiss? Not only is it because of the chemicals released by your body, it's also caused by something else. The feelings of love sweep you away when you are being held, kissed, and given all kinds of affection. Your confidence level and feelings of self-worth will shoot sky-high when a man shows interest in you. This will likely replace the stress and fears in your life, at least for a moment.

3. Kissing uses 29 facial muscles

This is just a fun fact. Kissing is a form of exercise that can limit the amount of wrinkles you develop on your face due to the little work out you get from kissing. Isn't that crazy?

4. Kissing enhances the bond between you and your partner

Award-winning author, Dawn Maslar, shared, "When we kiss, both men and women produce the hormone oxytocin. It's often called the 'love hormone' because it causes us (particularly females) to bond". Being close physically is an important way to bond with your partner.

5. Kissing makes your marriage stronger

Kissing helps you choose the right partner, one who you are attracted to physically as well as emotionally and spiritually. When a couple kisses, the body is essentially sending signals to each other's immune systems. This helps bring people together and shows how biologically compatible you are.

6. It can fight illnesses

How can swapping spit fend off viruses? Research from the journal of Medical Hypotheses and a study from Wilkes University have found that women build intense immunity and infection fighting antibodies from kissing. You are in fact more likely to get sick from shaking hands with someone than kissing them. So if you want to stop getting sick and enjoy your summer vacation, get kissing!

7. Kissing limits physical and emotional pain

As mentioned previously, the body produces and releases endorphins once physical intimacy of any kind takes place. Along with endorphins, adrenaline is produced when your heart is racing, gives your sad heart, headache, cramps, and other types of pain a (temporary) relief.
