Many women believe they should tell their spouse everything. Men seem to put on a tough persona, and they seem like they can handle any criticism or complaint that comes their way, but they just can't.
Be aware of your husband's feelings, and also be aware of when he just doesn't really want to talk. Here are seven things you should never tell your husband:
1. Anything someone asks you to not tell
If a friend or family member tells you something and specifically asks you not to tell anyone, you shouldn't. They told you their secret in confidence and trust, and your husband doesn't need to know about it.
If it directly affects your husband or puts a burden on your relationship, ask permission to let him in on the secret.
2. That he's getting a little chunky
It's common for people to gain a little weight when they get married. You might notice there's a little extra pudge on his stomach, but you don't need to tell him about it. Chances are, he already knows and is working on it.
If you're extremely concerned about his health, you can ask if he wants to join you at the gym for quality time, make some healthy meals throughout the week and let him find healthy ways to unload stress.
3. Your friends' drama
I have a super hard time with this one, but your husband doesn't care about your friend life (for the most part). There are certain times where he'll be excited to listen to a story or two about the latest drama, but he shouldn't have to listen to it all day, every day.
You can find a good balance with this one. If your hubby genuinely wants to hear about it and it's a good time, tell him! But if he's relaxing and asks you to tell him later, it's best to respect his wishes - he would do the same for you.
4. Small problems you have with his family
Of course you should address huge problems. But every wife has a few little problems with her in-laws, and they're almost always better left alone. You don't need to tell your husband every time you think your mother-in-law is being passive aggressive, because she probably isn't.
Your husband loves his family, and it's hard for him to hear you complain about them. Unless there's a serious issue, try to love his family like your own. You never know what awesome relationships will come out of it.
5. Anything rude your parents say about him
Your sweetheart doesn't need to know if your mom thinks he's the worst. This is one where you need to protect his feelings and defend him.
He's your forever now, and if you're lucky, your family will be totally on board. It might take a while, but your family will love him someday if they don't already.
6. Fun surprises
Of course it's great to keep surprises from your spouse! Whether you've planned a fun little getaway or you got him that fishing pole he's always wanted, keeping those surprises a secret can make for a lot of fun and a super happy husband.
That being said, you should definitely make decisions about big purchases together. Don't just come home with a dog one day, because he might not be too happy.
7. That you wish he made more money
I don't know anyone who wouldn't like a little more money, but your husband is doing his best. He works so hard to provide for your family, so let him know he's doing a great job - even if he's not making as much as you would like.
Whatever you decide to tell your husband, just make sure it won't hurt him. He might need some tough love every so often, but you should want to lift each other up while keeping open and honest communication. Communication is necessary, but some things are better left unsaid.
