Waking up is hard to do.
Your bed is such a warm and inviting friend, that when your alarm goes off in the morning, the temptation is to just stay in it forever.
But we all know that this is impossible, because of those pesky little things called jobs and responsibilities.
So for those of you who need some extra help when it comes to actually getting out of bed, here are seven tips to help you out:
1. Stop hitting the snooze button
It can be such a temptation in the morning to hit the snooze button for just five more minutes of sleep.
But according to Webmd, you will actually be doing more harm than good by hitting that button, because doing so doesn't allow you to get the kind of sleep that is good for your body.
So set your alarm for the time you will ACTUALLY get up, and never hit the snooze button again.
2. Let the light in
According to this health study, light can actually help tell your body it's time to wake up, and stop the production of melatonin, the chemical the brain produces for your body to sleep.
If you have a window by your bed, avoid putting heavy curtains on it. Use light curtains that will allow light to flood in in the morning and help you to wake up.
3. Plan ahead
If sleep is very precious to you, one of the keys to getting more of it in the morning is planning ahead the night before.
Set out your outfit for the next day, prepare your lunch, pack your bag and have breakfast ready to go. All of these things can save you some time and let you get a few more Z's in.
4. Have some water close by
Drinking a glass of water as soon as you wake up will help you become more alert.
It helps to open your eyes and get your body stimulated and ready to go.
5. Add some motivators around your bedroom
When you do something hard, it's very helpful to have things around you to motivate you.
This can include décor in your bedroom, especially motivational signs or pictures.
Having these motivators in sight right when you wake up can be just what you need to get out of your bed and start your day.
6. Have a morning playlist
There's nothing like some good beats to really pump you up!
Similar to a workout playlist, having a morning playlist with songs that will cheer you up and get you moving in the morning is a great incentive to leave your bed.
Also, a little dancing in the morning can really get your blood flowing. Win-win.
7. Keep some citrus on hand
Citrus smells can help wake you up in the morning.
So eat a grapefruit, drink a glass of orange juice or have a mango smoothie.
So although waking up is hard to do, it isn't impossible. And doing these seven things will only make it easier.
